Another sneak peek from our Belgium friends, Mambo. McLane VS Turbodog runs at 02:46, and the cut itself is the most effective at foreplay and really does not meet the threshold that my addiction requires. Being so brilliant, it is not enough aside the idea of what will come with the last 7 unreleased tracks of Bertier, dropping officially on the 13th of December.

5:4 aquatic playfulness builds out of McLane VS Turbodog until a 6:4 more bass driven and peculiar moded section takes over. Sounding like the language of animals or dinosaurs, we see a narrative of humans among the large and heavily mysterious beasts. I love how tight this band is even when meshing very opposing complexes. The band has a tense post-hardcore section that uses more dub-step or glitchy intonations.

Having the more loop oriented track,Tokyo Tripot, some heavily electronic founded ideas in McLane VS Turbodog, and the noodling and gyrating sensations of Claude Le Sagouin, we enter the Jurassic era at all levels of life. Small, giant, underwater or airborne; this record is Noah’s ark.

live:
(regarding concours circuit final)
My favorite band of the evening and number two winners was Mambo. Although described as math rock, they are definitely much more than mathematical rhythms or very skilful players. They are a four-piece band extremely natural on stage, with enormous delight of playing together and a great sense of humor. They did not come to win, they came to play and that’s the best rock’n’roll attitude ever. A fully instrumental performance but with enough blast, movements and change of directions to keep the spirit up until the end of the (too short) 30 minutes recital. One more gem coming from the rich Liège rock scene to perform and conquer the audience of Brussels.

Prizes won:
Second prize: 1000 euros
Prix Lasemo (presence in the festival line-up)
Prix Bruxelles-Les-Bains

Prix Alhambra
Prix Rockerill
Prix Ca Balance (1 day of recording and 1 day of mix with a professional sound engineer)

about

mambo Liege, Belgium

Bouncy quartet made up of members of Casse Brique and terraformer, Mambo combines sonic energy with time-signature-laden mathematical rhythms. As you will hear, their influences dip into The Redneck Manifesto and Honey for Petzi keeping nonetheless a highly identifiable trademark. Mambo has just released a second 10-track instrumental album, ‘$20.000 de chorus’. ... more
